One Week Mindful Outdoors

The phone has fundamentally changed the experience of being outside. Most people who spend time in nature now spend significant parts of it with their attention divided — checking messages, taking photos, listening to content. All of these are fine activities, but they prevent the kind of undivided attention that produces the deepest restorative effects of nature exposure. This challenge is about reclaiming that undivided attention, even briefly.

Every day this week, when you go outside, commit to the first 10 minutes without touching your phone. Don't check it, don't take photos, don't listen to anything. Just be in the environment: look at what's around you, listen, feel the temperature and the air. You can do whatever you want with your phone after those 10 minutes. The goal is simply to give your nervous system the full version of the outdoor experience for at least 10 minutes each day.
